Acuity Pro Features

New Remote Control -
With the release of version 7.0, we now have a new 56 button remote control which will control all aspects of Acuity Pro.  All buttons are labeled with 10 programmable buttons for your own customization including the ability to create macro's for sequential screen presentations.  The buttons are labeled according to our keyboard hot keys and an overlay around the buttons describe the function of each button.  An example would be the button with the label 'S' has the word 'Snellen' written below it.  Pressing this button brings up the snellen chart just exactly like pressing the 'S' key on the keyboard will do.  Below is an image of our new remote.

Acuity Pro Remote Control

Hot Keys -
If you choose not to use our new remote control, you may operate Acuity Pro with the standard keyboard.  Every function and display option can be accessed by a single key stroke called a 'hot key'.   We have tried to make the keys as intuitive as possible so that they will be easy to learn.  Most of our users have found that it only takes a few times using the program to become totally familiar with the keys.  If you forget, just hit the 'F1' button for Help. (top)

Standard Snellen Chart -
Of course the snellen chart is the default optotype with the standard order of letters (T Z V E C L) as default.  Press the 'S' button to invoke this optotype.  When the
random button is pressed, the letters ( or pictures ) are replaced with a random set.

Sloan 5x5 Chart - NEW!
Standard Sloan letters which are just as tall as wide, so called 5x5 aspect ratio are a new feature in this version of Acuity Pro.  There are 10 different letters in this optotype set.

Tumbling 'E' Chart -
The Tumbling E chart is great for children or illiterates.

Tumbling 'C' Chart -
The Tumbling C chart is a great alternative to the 'C' chart and works great for kids or illiterates too.

Number Chart -
The number chart, just like the Tumbling C or E chart helps with those patients who may have trouble with letters.  Press the 'N' button to change to this optotype.

Picture Optotype -
Yet another way to test children.  Even goes down to 20/10.  Press the 'P' button to change to this optotype.

Log Mar Charts -
New to version 6.0 by request.  All optotypes can be displayed in LogMar size and notation.  Use the control panel to select this feature.

Randomization and Always Random -
This feature will randomize any optotype that is on screen.  It makes acuity testing much more accurate by generating a random sequence of letters so that memorization of the current letter size is no longer an issue.  It works with all optotypes.  Remember, the default letter sequence we all know is the first sequence presented for each snellen size so you don't have to worry about looking at the chart each time you change size.  Even if you have 'Randomized' the current display, by changing the size up or down, you will get the standard sequence for the next set of letters.  If you would rather have random letters 'Always On', just go into the control panel and check the box entitled 'Always Random'.  This will always produce a random letter sequence regardless of which button you press.

Mirror Display Option -
This is a great feature for those of you who have mirrored rooms.  Un-Hide the control panel by pressing the 'H' button then click on the mirror option, all snellen letters are presented backwards.  Acuity Pro remembers how it was when shut down so that next morning, it will still be reversed.

Red/Green Overlay -
This feature of Acuity Pro is a standard red/green overlay which is available on all optotypes.  It can be used with all sized letters, single letter, single line or multi-line display and mirror.

Astigmatic Charts -
The standard 12 point, 3 line astigmatic wheel or clock dial.  Press the button again and the new 'shower drain' astigmatic chart appears.  The astigmatic button toggles between these two charts each time it is pressed.

4 Dot Test -
Use the Red/Blue glasses provided to check stereopsis with your patients.  A great way to check for malingering.  Now you have the ability to adjust the red/blue screen to get that perfect color block.

Fixation Disparity -
Use the red/blue glasses to check fixation disparity.  This is another dual function button that toggles between a fixation disparity chart with a fusion lock and one without.  (top)

HOTV Chart -
HOTV - This is a great addition to our program. If you are not familiar with the HOTV chart, here is a quick introduction: The entire chart consists of only the letters H O T, and V. The patient is given the HOTV card and told to point the letter on the card that corresponds with the letter on the screen.  The simplicity of this chart allows it to be used on non-verbal patients, mentally challenged patients and patients who do not know (or are too young to know) the English alphabet. We have the HOTV and Numbers charts to add accuracy to the testing of young children and others who have difficulty with standard charts. We believe they are far more accurate than the Allen picture optotypes that we already include and suggest these charts take the place of the Allen chart pictures when possible.

Blanking Feature -
This is a great way to quickly and completely black the screen.  Instead of having to turn your projector off and on every time you want to do ophthalmoscopy, just press the 'B' button.   We have also added a second screen, the 'white out' screen.  Press the 'B' button again to switch back and forth between black and white screens.  This feature was  added by request from one of our users.

Fixation Dot -
A standard white on black fixation Dot is available by pressing the 'D' button.

User Defined Keys and Macro Function - NEW!
There are ten user defined keys available so that you may assign any sequence of hotkey keystrokes to a single Function key.  This will allow you to have a single key to display a 20/25 line or a single key to jump to a single line display of 20/60 letters or whatever you want.  A great new feature of v4.0.  With the release of version 7.0 of Acuity Pro, you may now store an entire exam sequence of charts to a single button on the remote.

Speed Acuity -
By request!  A single or double column of descending size optotypes for that really quick acuity check.

Single Letter Display -
Hit the 'O' button for 'One Letter' display.  This feature works for all sizes and optotypes.  Great for horizontal and vertical phorias and ductions.

Single Line Display -
Just like your antique projector, you can select a single Line of letters by pressing the 'L' button.  It works on all optotypes.

Multi-Line Display -
You can have up to 4 lines of letters on the screen at one time, depending upon the snellen size currently in use.  press the 'U' button for mUlti-line.

Vertical Line Display -
Some doctors prefer to use a vertical line of letters for phoria testing.  Just press the 'V' button to invoke this feature.

U.S. / Metric / Decimal Display -

You may calibrate and display the optotype size in any of three units.  It's just a click away.

ANSI Spacing - NEW!
You now have the option of ANSI standard spacing of the displayed optotypes.  Open the control panel by pressing the 'H' button (PREF) and check the box.  All multi-line and single line displays will be spaced according to international standards.

Ocular Pathology Image Library -
This is our most exciting feature yet and is new to version 3.0.  We have incorporated over 50 high resolution slides of common ocular pathologies which you can show your patients on screen.  Next time you have a patient with a posterior subcapsular cataract, show them what it looks like!  How about Asteroid, PVD, Diabetic Retinopathy, Punctal Plug?  You can show your patients an image of their condition.  These high resolution images are invaluable in helping to explain to your patients their ocular condition.

Big E-Z Slide Finder -
While in the Photo Gallery, press the 'Up' or 'Dn' button to quickly scroll through the list of all available slides.  When you find the title you want, press the 'Select' button and the photo will appear.  The titles are very large and can easily be seen from across the room so that you may browse from your exam chair.  A big improvement over previous versions.  The same tool is available in the video library too.  Works just like the slide finder.

Red/Green Circles -
New to version 6.0, this feature displays a split screen red/green field which contain two sets of concentric black circles.  Great for doing a Red/Green Balance.

Slide Show Option -
While in the image library screen, you can create up to 9 different slide show of your favorite slides.  If you don't want to show your patients ocular pathology, add your own scenic European vacation slides to the series.  You can select any slides you want for the slide show and set the delay for each slide change.  (top)

Masking Feature - Another new feature to version 6.0.  Block out a single line or single letter of the chart.  Just like the old bulb projectors but high tech!

Add Your Own Photos -
Another very exciting feature of the image library is that you can add your own photos to it.  All you need is an image capturing system or camera and scanner.  Instructions for adding your slides are easy to follow and will make your Acuity Pro unique.  Instead of having your patient sit and stare at the walls while you're away, turn on the slide show with your own practice promotion slides, scenic slides, or any other thing you want to display! A great way to educate you patients about other aspects of your practice or your life.

Video Player -
This is a great feature!  You can import any mpg or avi video file or movie clip and show it directly within Acuity Pro.  An excellent way to keep kids attention while doing retinoscopy.  Also a great way to show your patients practice promotion videos.  Download and import your first video from our site provided by Lacrimedics.  It shows a video clip of a punctal plug insertion.  Version 5.0 now comes with several cartoons too!

Crowding Bars -
New to version 5.0.  Press 'K' to invoke the crowding bars around a single optotype.  This is the most accurate way to test acuity on an amblyopic eye.

ETDRS -
Doing research?  We now have an ETDRS chart that will meet your protocol requirements for research.  Press the 'I' key to invoke this feature.  The variable contrast feature is also available for this chart.  Press 'J' to invoke the variable contrast feature.

Variable Contrast Letter Set -
This feature will allow you to display snellen letters or the ETDRS chart at relative contrast from 0 to 30%.  Once set, it will be remembered.  A great way to test those pre and post LASIK patients for contrast sensitivity.  Press the 'J' key to invoke this feature.

What Does It Cost? -

ADA Tax Credit -
If you have never had a method to test non-verbal , mentally challenged or illiterate patients before, Acuity Pro will allow you to serve this population now by using the HOTV test chart and example card.  Another way that you may utilize the ADA tax credit is if you were to load Acuity Pro onto a laptop computer or our All-In-One MPC computer system and test home bound or nursing home patients that you otherwise could not test.  You may be able to purchase the software and our All-In-One MPC system at the same time and both qualify for the ADA tax credit.  Be sure and consult with your accountant to verify these requirements.
